Endodontics: treatment of root canals
This consists of removing the pulp tissue, of the nerve, which is inside the tooth roots in order to preserve the tooth and its masticatory function, thus avoiding the need for extraction.
What is the procedure like?
Local anaesthesia is used in most cases. The pulp chamber is accessed, the infected tissues are removed and it is cleaned. The canals are filled with suitable filling and a provisional obturation (filling) is fitted on the crown of the tooth until the definitive one is fitted.
